For the first time ever, guests will not only be able to travel from Switzerland to Italy on skis and snowboards, but from July 1, 2023, they will also be able to do so dry-footed by cable car alpine flight – and vice versa.

The new Matterhorn Glacier Ride II facility closes the last remaining gap between Zermatt and Cervinia and makes the long-standing vision of the highest Alpine crossing by cable car a reality.

Last construction stage in May 2023

Construction work on the new ropeway is currently in its final stages. In May and June 2023, the installation of the gondolas, the internal commissioning and the safety inspection by the Federal Office of Transport will take place. The new ropeway runs from the top station of Matterhorn Glacier Paradise at 3,883 meters above sea level to the bottom station of Testa Grigia at 3,480 meters above sea level.

In order to meet the demanding conditions in the high alpine region, the exceptionally wind-stable three-cable gondola system of the ropeway manufacturer LEITNER from South Tyrol was chosen – as was already the case in the construction of the Matterhorn Glacier Ride I.

The highest alpine crossing by cable car will be opened on June 01, 2023.

.fusion-builder-row .fusion-layout-column.gradient-column-2 .fusion-column-wrapper:before {content: "";
